About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Oakland’s lively Telegraph Avenue, Kingfish Pub & Cafe is more than just a bar — it’s a spirited dive bar with a rich local history and an unmistakable college-town energy. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported to a nostalgic era where good times, great drinks, and an effortless vibe blend seamlessly.

Kingfish stands out for its invitingly casual atmosphere, perfect for those looking to unwind after a long day or catch the big game with friends. Its two well-stocked bars, complemented by several TVs, make it an ideal spot to cheer on Cal football or simply enjoy a casual catch-up. Dog lovers take note: this spot warmly welcomes your furry companions, making it feel like a true neighborhood hangout.

One of Kingfish’s signature delights is their complimentary salted and buttered popcorn, a treat that perfectly complements the wide selection of reliable, budget-friendly beers on offer — including 16oz Pabst Blue Ribbon for just $5.00. If you’re hungry, their Original Kasper’s Hot Dog is an unmistakable staple: a steamed all-beef hot dog piled with mustard, sweet relish, fresh tomato wedges, onions, and a custom pepper blend that adds just the right kick. Vegetarian guests will appreciate their vibrant Vegetarian Tamale, served with fresh tomatillo salsa, Greek yogurt, and diced green onions — a flavorful, textured bite that’s hard to find in most dive bars.

Perhaps the most treasured aspect of Kingfish is its sense of community. Patrons like Tony Gonzalez echo the sentiment that walking through the door feels like coming home — surrounded by the storied marks of a classic dive bar, paired with friendly faces, excellent drinks, and top-notch service. The expansive back patio offers a great spot to soak up the California sun or enjoy a peaceful evening outdoors, while the upstairs rentable loft provides a unique space for celebrations, as Sheila S fondly recalls hosting birthdays and gatherings there.

True to its dive bar roots, service here maintains a laid-back and unpretentious pace — a rare chance to slow down and savor the moment amid Oakland’s vibrant scene. Whether you’re a college student looking for a Thursday night haunt or a long-time local craving a no-frills spot with soul, Kingfish Pub & Cafe invites you to kick back, order your favorite beer, grab a “dog with everything,” and soak in the timeless vibe.

With a neighborhood feel, a historic ambiance, and a menu that hits all the right comfort food notes, Kingfish Pub & Cafe is the kind of place that beckons you to return again and again.

Amazing dive bar with a good college vibe on thursday. Service is kind but very slow, that's why the 1 star is given to service. If you wanna go back in time this bar is amazing, get yourself a table and your gold for a deep night

Felt right at home. You can sense the history around you with all the ear marks of a classic dive bar. I love it and even bought a T-shirt Good drinks, people and service. The back patio is awesome with a rentable loft

It was the last place we went before the pandemic hit and the first place we went when we were allowed to go out again. I’ve been to this local dive for many years and it’s always a nice casual atmosphere. They have a large back patio, TVs, two bars, free salted and buttered popcorn, and it is dog friendly. We rented the upstairs room for one of my birthdays, and it was also very convenient for $200. Street parking. One unisex bathroom in the back patio and one male one female bathroom inside.

Kingfisher the great all-around pub it's great for people wanting to experience local Oakland culture and wanting to see what a dive bar really means. It does not have food even if it has cafe in the name.
